Everyone goes through changes. Everybody from the toughest of the tough to the weakest. And the funny and undeniable fact about these changes is that they are what we later become and they are the skeleton- the backbone that we will later fall back on when we are in search of our true personality. Some types of change are necessary while some are a matter of influence.
Like everyone else, I go through changes. Some changes have to happen. They are necessary for us to go through everyday of our lives. For example, i am taller than i was five years ago. I eat more, i read more, i am more knowledgeable about more things and i know more people. These changes are destined to happen to everyone.
Some other changes are caused as a result of the effect of our environment; these are the changes that are influenced by the society we know. Our family, friends, school and more influence these set of changes. I dress differently than i did five years ago; i have a new perspective of life than i did five years ago. I see most people differently than i did five years ago, i stopped reading some books i enjoyed reading five years ago and i stopped watching some shows and listening to some songs that i watched and listened to five years ago.
There are some aspects in our lives that will change yet, and some that will remain there forever. the basics: my family, my look, mu heritage, my language, my name, some of my friends and most importantly who i am on the inside will remain and continue to help dictate the kind of person i am. Everyone has a personality test at some point in their life but when faced with this test stay true to you and that is all you will need in this wild journey of life that you are undertaking.

James Ritty

Do you own a supermarket or a chain of stores then you will know important the invention of James

Ritty is . James Ritty was born on a cold October day in the hot lands of Dayton Ohio . He was born on

October 29 1836 to illegal immigrans Ledger and Mary Ritty.

As he grew up in age and experience , James had many accomplishments . James fought in the

civil war of America and later owned a local salon called the pony house, it was successful because it

offered free food , wine , and beer at an affordable price . But that is not why he is remembered; Ritty is

known and remembered for an invention that has changed the face of marketing, which we know as the

cash register . A cash register is a mechanical or electronic device for calculating and recording sales

transactions . One of its most important function is the ability to give a customer a receipt.

The  two causes that led James to consider making the cash register are as follows. The first cause,

his employees stole money from him , since his salon was successful and thriving . The second

contributing factor to Ritty's famous invention was an inspiration on a trip . Ritty was on a steamboat

trip to Europe, he was fascinated by a mechanism that counted how many times the ship's propeller

went around. He wondered if something like this could be made to record the cash transactions made at

his saloon.

In 1879 , James and John Ritty got a patent for what was known as "Ritty's Incorruptible Cashier" .

After a lot of prototypes , the brothers finally found the one that worked. The cash register's original

design had no drawers and operated by pressing a key that represented a specific amount of money.

This led James to open his own factory, which did not last long . James was not able to manage two

businesses , so in 1881 he sold the interest that he had gained to a group of investors, that later formed

the national cash register company. Even though Ritty did not prosper from his invention, he did not get

a negative attitude and he continued to be friends with the investors. Ritty retired from the bar business

in 1895 . He died of heart trouble in his downtown Dayton Arcade residence. He is entombed with his

wife Susan and his brother John (ca 1834-28 December 1913) at Ohio. Before Ritty, died John H.

Patterson invited him to attend various NCR meetings and conferences. James Ritty really made a

important invention ; this just goes to prove that inspiration is the mother of manifestation.

If You Could Do Two Things To Keep Your Nation "Honest Truthful and Virtuous" what would you chose to do?

If you could do two things to keep your nation "honest, truthful and virtuous", what would you chose to do?

"_THE LIFE OF THE NATION IS SECURE, ONLY WHILE THE NATION IS HONEST TRUTHFUL AND VIRTUOUS"
FREDRICK DOUGLASS (ORATOR, ABOLITIONIST, SLAVE) 1840

I would like to begin answering this response by saying i agree with Mr. Douglass because a corrupt, disloyal and immoral country is a people heading for a ghastly destruction. The most beautiful and organized systems can be brought down if values of any kind are lacking.
In my attempt to keep my nation honest, truthful and virtuous i would begin with a self-examination. I will try to find any fault in me. If i must make an entire nation virtuous i would begin with making myself virtuous. Make sure that all my bad, immature habits are gone and i will do my very best to keep my lifestyle that way. Eve in the Bible it says before we find a fault in our neighbor let us clear our own faults, (which we need help with).
Next on my agenda will be to see how to make everybody "cool". As a child , i think part of the problem in our society is that there is too much space between society classes. The intimidation, pressure and in the process corruption is based on what she has and i don't or what he does that i can't do. I am not saying everyone has to be the same in class but what i am saying is that those in the upper class should stop despitefully using and intimidating those in the lower class.
In conclusion, i think the only two things today's society needs the most are faithfulness and love. So i want to end this response by reminding yo that only a strong people can make a strong nation.

Analyses of the poem - I,Too by Langston Hughes

Analyses of the poem- I, Too by Langston Hughes
The motif behind this poem roots from the fact that most African Americans were treated badly after they were set free from being slaves. The two important themes in this poem are as follows, first, the ignorance of African Americans when they were slaves and finally when they were freed, the blacks were educated and were able to work.
The first theme is that when the African Americans were slaves they were not noticed but rather ignored, shoved aside and viewed as assets. Mr. Hughes states "i am the darker brother; they send me to eat in the kitchen when company comes...i laugh, eat well and grow strong"(1-7). This signifies that by ignoring the slaves, the oppressors were unknowingly helping to make the slaves stronger. This process make the African Americans bolder and stronger. This theme is very important to the fabric of the poem.
The second theme is that when blacks got educated they were able to function well in the society. When they 'left the kitchen and sat on the table" which signifies that since we were no longer ignored but instead presented at the forefront of the oppressors, their skills were undeniable. This signifies that their intelligence was now shown and no one could dare tell them to go eat in the kitchen anymore because their wisdom is overwhelming, and their beauty...irrestitible.
Langston Hughes,by inserting the themes of ignorance and post ignorance, was trying to make a point that the African Americans were always talented but when they were ignored the oppressors could not see it.

Comparisons and Contrasts In French and USA

The United States and France have both been countries of immigration. Although both countries get immigrants from different parts of the world, they are almost equally influenced by the cultures of the immigrants that occupy them. Located in Western Europe and because of her contributions and involvement with WW2, France receives a majority of immigrants from Spain, Portugal, North and West Africa. Like natives of the United States, French citizens don’t migrate to other countries in large packs . Being the second largest country by area in Continental Europe,France ,unlike the United States,Muslims in France are segregated and discouraged by the French caste system  to  soak in the culture.
The United States, unlike France, has many problems with illegal immigration and a stalled economy. Even though America is in a recession, immigrant numbers have increased.America’s immigrants are from all parts of the world and there is no segregation of any kind. Unlike France, America’s immigration’s policy was design by neglect rather than by design. Unlike France, immigration has affected America positively and America handles her immigration problems rather better.
The reason France has been negatively affected by immigration is because she is losing her European Individuality to an increasing number of Muslim immigrants. America, on the other hand, is a nation of diversity and unlike France, is not being occupied by just one race of immigrants but many. Many people agree that the United States handles her immigrant problems rather better than any other nation in the world.  Another common ground these two countries have is tourism. Both nations have a large number of tourist attractions and tourists although the United States might have more tourists than France.
The United States and France are both beautiful countries with languages that are known around the world. English is the official business language of the world and French is the official language of the United Nations. Both countries have been very welcoming and greatly influenced by the Western culture.

Explain the Christian Influence upon Anglo-Saxon Heroism as Reflected in The Dream of the Rood

Isaac Atayero

Mr. John Campion

A.P. English language

10/3/2011

During the time that the Anglo-Saxon poem, The Dream of The Rood, comes to being there were Christian monks inhabiting the land of the Anglo - Saxon and in attempt to convert the heathen to Christianity the monks tampered with the poems of the Anglo-Saxons and insert Christian themes in them. One of the Christian influenced motifs in this poem is the oneness between Christ and man. Another motif present in this poem is the presence of light versus darkness. A third christian influence present in the poem is the separation from left and right. A very Christian motif from The Dream of The Rood is the pathetic fallacy that happens to the hero later in the poem.
In The Dream of The Rood, the Christian monks influence the poem by inserting a motif of oneness between Christ and man in the poem. In the poem , Jesus is represented as a “young hero”, who is very courageous, “determined and brave” and he dies in order “to make men’s souls eternally free”. The poem is an account of his cross, which in essence becomes one with Christ, who is crucified on him. The cross’ relationship with the “lord of the world” can be compared with the oneness with Christ and man. The church, essentially man, is called the Bride of Christ because of Christ’s sacrifice for his bride because in Christianity the husband and the bride are to come together to be one . The cross witnesses that “ we were both reviled, we two together. I was drenched with the blood that gushed from that hero’s side as His holy spirit  swept to Heaven”. The oneness between the cross and the hero crucified on the cross is an obvious motif placed in the poem by the Christian monks inhabiting the land of Anglo - Saxon at the time .
In The Dream of The Rood ,the Christian monks’ insertion of the presence of light versus darkness is an example of Christian influence in an Anglo- Saxon poem. Light is an important symbol in Christianity and it is inserted in this poem by the monks also. The hero is chronicled as a “shining cross wrapped in light”, an obvious influence from the monks. The Rood also goes on to say that “ It was a tree of victory ad splendor”. Just like light is a symbol of purity and holiness, darkness symbolizes the exact opposite , impurity and sin. Men have a temptation to sin and this causes them to be “tainted ulcered with sin” and make them dark. Ideals such as light equaling good and darkness meaning sin are rooted firmly in the thread of Christian culture. It is very likely that these ideals are a result of Christian monks trying to convert the heathen to their religion.
In The Dream of The Rood , the Christian monks strategically place the separation of left from right as a motif in the poem. In Christianity, the right side is very important as Jesus, the son of God, sits to the right of the father . As in Christianity, the right side is significant in this poem for The Rood writes “gloriously wrapped in gleaming stones and through the gold i saw the stains of its ancient agony when blood spilled out on its right- hand side”.The selection of the right- hand side from the left- hand side is not random or irrelevant motif. This motif is a reminder that there is a heavy influence of Christianity in this poem and it also signifies the connection between Christ and the hero of the poem. These comparisons are no coincidence and they are definitely not accidental, what they are conscious insertions by monks in an attempt to convert the Anglo- Saxons to Christianity.
In The Dream of The Rood, the Christian monks place an influence upon the poem by inserting the motif of pathetic fallacy in the poem . Pathetic fallacy, a theme that reoccurs throughout the Bible, is when a tragedy befalls a good man and nature begins to rebel to signify mourning of the good person. This happens to multiple characters in the Bible, including Jesus when he dies for the sake of humanity. When the young hero in the poem dies for his fellow men all of “creation wept, bewailed his death”. Examples of creation’s rebellion range from when “clouds rolled from the darkness to cover over the corpse’ to ‘the shinning splendor a livid shadow dropped from Heaven”. These acts of pathetic fallacy only happen when an almighty powerful individual  figure as great as Christ . This motif is probably the most important because it outlines the importance of Christ as a heavenly figure . This is also another brilliant Christian theme brilliantly inserted by the Christian monks into this poem  as an endeavour to transpose the Anglo- Saxons into Christianity.
The Christian monks who wrote down this Anglo- Saxon  poem considered  it as away to drop their ideals into the Anglo- Saxon’s culture and influence their decision to convert to Christianity. The monks did this by inserting various motifs including the oneness between Christ and man. They also cut-in the ideal of light meaning against darkness’ significance in the poem. The monks  brilliantly slip in the motif of separating left from right . Pathetic fallacy is probably the most important installation of the Christian monks in the poem because it suggests the importance of Christ as a spiritual figure. With these themes, the Christian monks influence The Dream of the Rood greatly and place a permanent Christian influence on the Anglo- Saxon poem.

Difference between Plymouth and Jamestown

Difference Between Jamestown and Plymouth Colonies
King James I  chartered the Virginia Company and Jamestown Colony was established in 1607 as the first permanent English Colony in the New World. In the early 1500s, about thirteen years later, Plymouth Colony was founded . Jamestown was founded based on financial grounds unlike Plymouth Colony, which was the first colony whose establishment was motivated by religion. Jamestown was located around a swampy area along the James River where there was a climate was warm and the soil
was fertile. Plymouth Colony was founded off the Massachusettes coast, a location where there was a cod climate and rocky soil.
Most of the citizens in Jamestown were spares, gold-seeking gentlemen and they were not used to physical work such as hunting or farming . These men had no experience doing this work and no one to  show them how to do it. The Pilgrims were mostly lawyers and doctors but they were helped to adapt with help from the friendly Native Americans. The Plymouth Colony also included a large number of families while Jamestown was occupied mostly by men.  A large number of the settlers in Jamestown were members of the Church of England as opposed to the Puritans who loathed the Church of England and were devout members of the Puritan belief.
Jamestown became the first royal colony because the company’s charter was revoked in 1624. In the Plymouth Colony, majority rule was the form of self government that was sovereign while in Jamestown, the citizens ran a representative government. The pilgrims in Plymouth created  a document known as the Mayflower Compact, which was a constitution that stated the powers and duties of the government. The citizens in Jamestown established the House of Burgesses in 1619, twelve years after the founding of Jamestown, as the first representative assembly in America.
Unlike the Indians in Virginia, the Native Americans where the pilgrims landed were very friendly towards the pilgrims. The Indians in Jamestown did not have a very friendly attitude towards the English men in the beginning because of the many attempts by the men to christianize the Indians. The settlers in Plymouth initially did not have to worry about attacks from the Native Americans while the men in Jamestown  were constantly victims of Indian raids.
Early Jamestown, being a royal colony , financially depended on the crown while Plymouth became self sufficient and financially independent. The Mayflower was supposed to land in Virginia but the pilgrims decided to stay and establish their own colony. Unlike the settlers in Jamestown, the Plymouth setters were considered a threat by religious and political authorities in England.

Does F.Scott Fitzgerald Accurately Portray The 1920s in The Great Gatsby?

Isaac Atayero
Mr. Geary
English 2 Honors: Section 3
23 February 2011
The 1920s otherwise known as the Jazz Age is a time of moral decay and enjoyment for Americans. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s American novel, The Great Gatsby is about Nick Carraway a young man from the Midwest who moves to the East and adapts to its fast paced and glamorous lifestyle. Fitzgerald accurately portrays elements of the Jazz Age in his American novel The Great Gatsby. Fitzgerald accurately portrays the 1920s in The Great Gatsby through corruption by using characters such as Jay Gatsby and Meyer Wolfsheim in the novel. Fitzgerald accurately portrays the 1920s in The Great Gatsby through greed by using the characters Daisy Buchanan and Myrtle Wilson.
